“Some news from the Guzmans. Because of my upcoming retirement from the State of Texas after 29+ years, Frank & I are downsizing. We're selling the motorhome and tow dolly. We wanted to give CASI cooks first shot. This may be more info than you want, so use what you need & anyone interested can call for more details.
The motorhome is a 1996 Ford E-350 Coachman Leprechan. It's 29 feet with 43815 miles, new tires & an excellent interior. ($23,000)
We're also selling a 2005 Master Tow car dolly that's been used only once. ($1100) For more details or photos about either, call Frank Guzman @ 214-534-5889 or email @ frankandkath@hotmail.com.” (Kathryn Guzman)
“Please let everyone know that Beverly Kinslow Southard died February 25th. Beverly was a long-time cook, as was her first husband, Jim Kinslow. Beverly put on the Kinslow chili-cookoff in Amarillo for many years until her health wouldn't permit it anymore. Her sister is Cam Poyner, another long-time cook and member of the Tall in Texas Pod.” (Scott Campbell)

“This is just a quick note to remind everyone that there will be a Texas Hill Country Pod meeting on Wednesday, 3/15/06, at Horseshoe Pub & Pizza in Comfort, Texas at 7:30pm.” (James Gillen)

The Austin Elks Lodge will be hosting the Texas Elks State Chili Championship along with a CASI cookoff on January 20, 2007. This provides a great opportunity for CASI cooks who live in Texas towns with an Elks Lodge. If you can get some of their members interested in participating in this, we might cultivate new cooks and new cookoffs in your area. You can offer to provide them with a recipe, invite them to cook with you at another cookoff, or organize a cookoff at their Lodge so they can be prepared in January. This is a great chance to promote CASI.

We had many Champs, former Champs,Directors, former Directors, but the most important person was YOU, because you came and cooked and gave to our wonderful charity. Thanks also for the old eyeglasses. We had two boxes full. We had a brand new young family that came and camped with 2 little 4 year old twin boys. They left feeling great because you all embraced them and made them feel so welcome. Thanks to Jimmy Taylor and Jeannette Cardenas-Judging, Doc Kinnison-Referee, Bucky Seelig and tallying crew, all monitors and beer runners, judges, etc. etc. etc. Special thanks to the cleaning crew, you know who you are. It was a great weekend. Made $2500.00. That will buy 100 pairs of glasses. You folks are the greatest. God Bless Us All. We are grateful and thankful. And thanks for caring so much for John and me. We love you right back.” (Sue and John Caffey)

“Our little band, The Texas Hat Band, is playing this Saturday night for the Doe's Sweetheart Dance at the Irving Elk's Lodge. It was an honor for us to be asked. Come and join us if you can. (I don't think you need to be a Doe or an Elk to get in).
Now about chili. You may know Mavis and Robert Nelson are big Texas Music Nation fans. They ran the TMN cookoff at Tres Rios last year and the cookoff for the TMN NYE party. We (our band) are going to her cookoff in Crawford, Texas on March 18th. I talked to Bodie Powell today. He is bringing his full band also. The music starts Saturday night. Come on down. This should be a lot of fun.” (Bill Lester)

“The Hermann Sons cook-off is this week-end in the big town of Comfort, Texas.
As in past years, the Texas Hill Country Pod helps the people at Hermann Sons put on their event so volunteers are needed to help with event – judging, monitoring, beverage runners, etc. They provide the beverages and condiments but we need to help with running the cook-off.
If you plan on attending and wish to help, please see John Goforth, head judge, or Mary Ellen Gillen, referee.
Thank you in advance and hope to see you there. It has always been a fun event and I doubt if it will be any different this year.” (James Gillen)
“Here's the latest on the Camp Furlong Days CCO at Pancho Villa Park in Columbus, NM to be held this coming weekend, March 11th. I don't know who may have even thought about participating in this event, but if you’re going to participate you should start thinking about where you might have to stay if you bring your RV. All the Park's reserved RV spots are already taken.
There's lots of spots in the park with electrical and water hook-ups for $14.00 per night but they will go on a first come, first served basis.
There are also spots with only water access and those that are primitive and these are less expensive. I talked to the Park’s manager and he's prepared various areas for dry camping. There is an RV Park in Columbus and you can reach these folks at the Columbus Best RV Park, (505) 531-2125. Speak with Mike Montgomery. He has 55 RV spaces with water and sewer. Of these spaces, 14 have full electrical hook-ups and these rent for a tad over $11.00 per night.
The park manager also tells me that he’s been contacted by a couple of RV traveling clubs of one sort or the other and he suspects these groups will be there. The Park is recommending that we bring our canopies just in case we can't actually locate and cook at our RV's in the park.
Attached is an article that appeared in the Las Cruces Sun News paper a month or so ago and also a spreadsheet outlining events and the times of those events.
Be there or be square.” (Bud Barrick)

“I would like to take this opportunity to THANK each and everyone of my CASI FRIENDS that contributed to my son,s troop in Iraq. I have just returned from his home in California and met with a Girl Scout troop that sold GS cookies and got donations to fill 174 flat rate boxes with goodies and personal items for the whole squadron . Some of these boys never get anything from home , so , they will be really surprised when their own box gets there with their name on it.
I will be at Ladies State and if any one wants to donate items , I will collect them and see that the boys get them .
It is starting to get hot there so the bugs are coming out ,so , some of us went to Sam`s yesterday and got a case of Bounce to send tomorrow.
THANKS TO ALL OF YOU AND YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE FOR THE SUPPORT OF OUR TROOPS.” (Sammie Plant)
