“There will be little rubs and disappointments everywhere, and we are all apt to expect too much; but then, if one scheme of happiness fails, human nature turns to another; if the first calculation is wrong, we make a second better: we find comfort somewhere. - Jane Austen

POTPOURRI

Happy Birthday to Carol Robinson, Sue Seehusen, and Donna Von Gentz.

“When the conduct of men is designed to be influenced, persuasion, kind unassuming persuasion, should ever be adopted. It is an old and true maxim that 'a drop of honey catches more flies than a gallon of gall.' So with men. If you would win a man to your cause, first convince him that you are his sincere friend. Therein is a drop of honey that catches his heart, which, say what he will, is the great highroad to his reason, and which, once gained, you will find but little trouble in convincing him of the justice of your cause, if indeed that cause is really a good one.” - Abraham Lincoln

“The 2006 Sonoran Desert International Open CCO will be held at the world famous Manny's Beach Club in Rocky Point, Mexico on January 14. The forecast is always for warm, sunny weather on the beach of the Sea of Cortez, so come down and join the High Desert Pod. As usual, we will be holding our Thursday afternoon fish fry on the beach and the "Day After", chili-grind-only cookoff at the Baja Cantina on Sunday.Worried about travel costs? Don't be! Gas and diesel are less than $2.00 a gallon in Mexico so come down with an empty fuel tank and save. And think about how much drinking money you will save because, as usual, the beer is free during the fish fry and cookoff.Gail Fisher has again designed the T-shirts for the cookoff and they are fabulous. Be sure to register for the cookoff by December 15 to make sure you get one.

Anyone flying in for the cookoff and not wanting to bring a stove should contact me. Our pod has several stoves we would be glad to loan to our guest cooks. Just let us know in time to bring them down. We can also pick up propane bottles if necessary.
If you have any questions please contact Greg Monger at 520 417-9948 or Bill Garbutt at
chilibill@azchili.us.” (Bill Garbutt)
