This will probably be the last CHN until after the Great Peppers Meeting. Please continue to send your news. If time and Internet access allow, I’ll post from San Angelo. Otherwise, I’ll get all of the news out starting next Monday.
I hope to visit with many of you in San Angelo.
NEWS
“My name is Kimberly Archer, I'm the Pepper Popper for the Mason Dixon Pod. As I get ready to head to TX for only my second GP's meeting, I do so with overwhelming excitement but also a very heavy heart. As all of us are well aware, the great people of the south have been handed some of the most unimaginable circumstances that the human spirit will ever face. Thousands are now homeless, hungry, scared and probably doubtful that life will ever return to normal. And for the families that have lost loved ones...life will forever be changed. I feel blessed that I didn't have family in that area of the country. However, it is still heartbreaking to read stories like MDP member, Janie Bauer's, on the CHN that for a while she was unsure of the well-being of her mother that resides in that area. And I am sure since CASI stretches across the country many others that may read this do have family or friends in that area. For all of those people I am saying a prayer! With that in mind, I would like to put a challenge out to all Great Peppers and their Pods to please give to the American Red Cross to help our fellow Americans start to believe again. I truly believe that we, as people, can survive anything as long as we still have hope...let's give some people that desperately need it a little bit of hope back. If any GPs or Pod reps want to bring a check to San Angelo made out to the American Red Cross, I'd be honored to collect all of them and send them in collectively. Let's show the Red Cross what CASI is really all about! Prayers to all of you and your families! See you in San Angelo!” (Kim Archer)
RESULTS & UPCOMINGS
“Saturday, September 3, 2005 was the date for the Kansas State Open CCO held in Pittsburg, KS. We had 20 cooks from 3 states vying for those points as well as qualifying for TICC. It started out reasonably cool but turned out really warm for the cooks and spectators. We really need to thank the Theta Epison Philanththopic Society who sponsored this event for their really hard work and participation in this event. We raised approximately $1,400 for the charities that they help support. Most thanks go to Amy McDonald and Lisa McAtee for their devotion to this cause. A Junior Division was also added and was really a great thing. We were also happy to include a cook on leave from Iraq who believed that this event would be great for the charity. The results are:

“On a hot, muggy 4th of September, High Desert Pod put on the 19th Annual Brewery Gulch Daze CCO in Bisbee, Arizona. The day started with a waiter/waitress competition of moving water glasses on a tray through an obstacle course. Next came the Pet Parade with pets and owners dressed alike. There was a watermelon contest involving throwing, eating and spitting of various parts of the watermelon...(I stayed out of the line of fire). Various kids activities followed....along with the infamous Ms. Ole Bisbee Contest (before you get up in arms about the terminology, you should know that this is the official name given by the Daze organizers...). Live music played through the afternoon and probably my favorite activity, people watching. 17 cooks showed up to cook their best red, raising $251 for the Bisbee Boys and Girls Club. Heres the results:
Chili:
1st - Guy Tennison, Sierra Vista, AZ
2d - Denise Cabello, Tucson, AZ
3d - Johnny Johnson, Sierra Vista, AZ
4th - Tom Wheeler, Bisbee, AZ
5th - Nancy Ruiz, Bisbee, AZ
6th - Trina Hernandez, Tucson, AZ
7th - Liz Hargadon, Tucson, AZ
8th - Greg Monger, Sierra Vista, AZ
9th - Roy Fisher, Sierra Vista, AZ
10th - Paul Hetrick, Bisbee, AZ
Show:
1st- Casa Loco, Tom Wheeler, Bisbee, AZ
2d - Pablo's SouthWest Chili, Paul Hetrick, Bisbee, AZ
3d - Hang Em High, Johnny Johnson, Sierra Vista, AZ
Best of Bisbee went to Tom Wheeler again.” (Greg Monger)
